The Ultimate Guide To Camping In Michigan

The Ultimate Guide To Camping In Michigan

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation opportunity, Michigan camping could be your ticket away from daily chores and stress into the beauties of nature.

The camping offers in the state of Michigan are quite impressive due to the large state parks and to presence of the great lakes at the state borders. In addition, there are several national parks that include lots of private campgrounds with the latest facilities.

If you choose Michigan camping there are countless possibilities to camp, hike, go fishing, mountain biking and a lot more. From the 11,000 inland lakes and over 14,000 campsites you can surely take your pick.

The most crowded period of the year for Michigan camping is summer between June and August. Nevertheless, all-year round facilities are available with the Portage Lake and the Mitchel State Parks open without any interruption.

Presently, there is an increase in the preference to enjoy Michigan camping in the fall months since the maple and oak trees provide one of the most spectacular colorful shows you could ever see in the middle of nature.

At the entry of the parks you will be asked to pay a minimum fee of $3 per entrance, or, in case you camp frequently, a yearly permit will not cost more than $20.

As for the campgrounds available in the Michigan camping programs, there are plenty of modern facilities to enjoy: from fishing to swimming and even golfing. You can check Michigan camping directories before going on the trip and see what camp decision you’d like best.

The majority of campers choose to go somewhere around the lakes, since they are dominating the landscape with their beauty and leisure activities resourcefulness.

As for events, Michigan camping is truly rewarding from this point of view. Nevertheless, not anyone will like to camp in a crowded area full of special events.

Even under the circumstances, the perspective is still great if we think about the so many opportunities to get into an isolated place far from any other campers.

Michigan camping guides provide comprehensive information and tips on how to prepare for life in the open. You can learn anything you like online from the basic stuff you should carry in the backpacks to the tips for the installation of the tents and the choice of adequate clothing.

Staying well informed and making all the checks and reservations beforehand truly contribute to a perfect vacation.

What Is KOA Anyway?

What Is KOA Anyway?

What is koa camping? Actually koa stands for kampgrounds of America. Therefore koa camping refers to popular campsites that have sprung all over America and which are perfect for first time campers.

Now that we made it clear what koa camping basically means, we can continue with the basics of koa camping in general. Maybe one of the most attractive aspects of koa camping is the availability of their rates.

Compared to other camping organizations, koa campsites can be said to always offer bargain like rates, which makes it unsurprisingly fast to book up. It seems that almost all the people who have ever been camping, at one time or another, at least once, have stayed in a koa camping site.

In most of the cases, koa camping sites are easily accessible by road and are usualy family campgrounds which provide ìamenities for every type of camperî, as Mike Gast, a koa spokesperson, once said.

Besides, if you are not so much of a loner or mad about wildernes and absolute silence, and prefer to be surrounded by a number of people, then a koa camping site is always the best choice. With a koa camping ground, wilde animals will never be an issue, either.

The koa camping system addresses both individuals and families, and larger groups of unrelated people as well, by organizing scouting camping activities. Thus children and teenagers can join scouting camps and trips that are organized by the koa camping organizations.

The koa camping grounds provide you with safe, clean atmospheres thus being the ideal venue for housing scouting events, earning merit badges and fulfilling service opportunities.

Here are just a few of the badge-specific activities organized for scouts participating in scouting koa camping activities: camping, fishing, wilderness survival, bird study, swimming, fire safety, nature, forestry, hiking, emergency preparedness and others.

There are 450 koa camping locations across North America, which means there will always be a great place to camp nearby. From rustic mountain locations to country and even urban locations, there are many different ways to enjoy koa camping.

Besides enjoying the facilities a koa camping has to offer, you can be one of the koa people yourself. The easiest and fastest way to acquire your own koa camping ground and jopin the system is to purchase an already existing one rather than build it.

If you do not have the money to pay for your koa camping ground cash, you can still do it benefitting from the franchising system. Either way you can become on of the koa camping providers, enjoy the activities themselves and also make a lot of money with it. Five Amenities That Can Make or Break Your Campsite

Five Amenities That Can Make or Break Your Campsite

Everyone has a different level of comfort when it comes to camping. You and your family might be totally comfortable “roughing it’ with very few amenities or you might consider it “roughing it” to not be staying anywhere near a spa. When you’re going camping with the family you need to think about what amenities are going to make life easier with the kids around.

You might not mind having to haul water from a community spigot a half mile away but when you have to do it with a toddler in tow three or four times a day then you might think it’s a pain. Even if you have liked “roughing it” in the past if you have children that are camping with you, then you definitely should consider finding a campground with these amenities to make your vacation and theirs more fun.

1. Bathroom facilities – Using outhouses or pit-toilets might be fun for the kids but when it comes to sanitation and keeping kids clean, they are no fun at all.  If your kids are older they will probably not want to use anything but a regular flush toilet, and if you have little ones, you will want to be around a proper bathroom with plenty of hot water and soap.

2. Showers – Going more than a day or two without a hot shower is no fun and not relaxing.  Make sure that you bring flip flops to wear in the shower and make sure that you check out the cleanliness of the shower before you go in, but having a shower on site should be a must for any campground.

3. Dump station for trash – Unless you want to end up having trash with you throughout your vacation and having to carry it out of the park or campground with you check to be sure that there is a dump station or trash dumping ground on site.

4. Electricity and water hookups – This is really only important if you’re camping in an RV but if you are planning on using your RV as a place to shower, cook, and relax you will need electricity and water hook ups.  Not every RV campground offers them to double check before you reserve a campsite.

5. A pool, playground or community center.  No matter how great all that family together time is, eventually you and the kids are going to need some time apart. As long as the campground has a pool or a playground, you can send the kids off to find some other kids to play with for awhile. Just make sure if it’s a pool that there are lifeguards are duty.

If the campground has a community center often, they will have video games, computers, TVs and DVD players so the kids can hang out there during the day for awhile and you can meet up with some other parents there at night.

Maintain Camping Safety At Your National Park Campsite

Maintain Camping Safety At Your National Park Campsite

Camping can be a fun experience, except when you get hurt! This is especially true when you are not near more comfortable facilities to treat a wound or clean up scrapes.

Therefore, you should do what you can to create a safe haven around your campsite. Camping safety can be an exhaustive subject so let’s just stick to the area around where you eat and sleep.

1. Campfires – Look for a metal ring or ring of rocks that most campground have at each site. This is the area in which to contain your campfire to ensure it does not spread to the neighboring areas.

If you must create your own area, dig a small pit away from trees with overhanging branches and line the pit with rocks. Store extra firewood upwind away from the fire to avoid sparks and keep a bucket of water handy in case you have to douse the flames.

Never leave a campfire unattended as accidents can happen. Children could be playing nearby, trip and fall into the flames. Or, wind could pick up carrying hot embers where they could ignite leaves or debris nearby.

2.  Sleeping arrangements – Sometimes camping hammocks are used during warmer months and strung between two trees or immovable objects.

Clear debris from the area around the hammock should you accidentally fall out of it in the middle of the night or stumble around for a bathroom. Rocks could leave bruises and sticks could poke or even penetrate skin if you landed on them wrong.

3.  Food – If the area in which you camp is known for its wildlife, you will want to secure your food items in sealable plastic bags and containers so no odors can be detected. Store the food if possible in your vehicle or closed area that would be impervious to ingenious wildlife like raccoons with dexterous paws.

If you use coolers that must stay outdoors, choose coolers made from sturdy materials and use straps with locks on them to prevent an animal tearing into the cooler.

4.  Critters – Before setting up camp, inspect the entire area looking for infestations of ants, wasps, bees and any other critters that can cause problems. Sometimes bees and wasps have nests in the ground.

5.  Getting lost – Despite all precautions and lectures, sometimes kids and even adults ends up wandering around and exploring. If everyone wears a whistle, it can be blown if someone gets lost. Whistles can be heard from a farther distance than a shout.
